Feature Release 2019.1.8
Tabx gets great new data processing features in our August release.
Multiple source Derived Variables (Recodes)
Anyone using SPSS to recode or net data from multiple variables into a single new variable knows how difficult this process is - often requiring scripting knowledge to complete accurately. Now, Tabx can smartly generate a new variable where each new answer category can be composed of criteria from multiple other variable sources. For example, you may want to generate a new variable with answers:
- (1) Females Rest of Country
- (2) Females London
To do this in Tabx, you'd define new answer category (1) as (gender = female + region != London) and new answer category (2) as (gender = female + region = London). In both cases, we're filtering respondents into a new code from two other variable sources. In more complex situations even more source variables may be used to define a new single category - in this case you can also decide whether you want to "AND" or "OR" that data together, using the rule "AND is evaluated before OR".
If the resulting variable needs to be a multi-type variable, never fear! Tabx will tell you this as you're building that new variable, and auto generate all the single component fields for you. Trick, eh?
Scalar Nets
Another time-sink in SPSS is having to net scalar fields into nominal or ordinal categorical fields. With Tabx's new Scalar Net feature, this is made as easy as just a few clicks. Once again - if you need generate new answer categories by netting several scalar fields' values together, you can! It works exactly the same as with normal derived variables.
